Welcome to Preston Budgerigar Society !

The society was formed in 1950 but unfortunately like the vast majority of our clubs today a general decline in membership over the last four years has left the club in a make or break situation.
A group of six members who continually supported the clubs shows basically got together over a beer, kicked around there ideas and came up with a some very exciting ideas.

These were then put before the current membership .
It was decided that the membership wanted to continue to show their birds locally but with a difference.

With the growing pressure of modern commitments the group decided to arrange our shows on Sunday mornings, giving sufficient time for staging to be erected, booking in of the birds and time for refreshments and a chat, giving a more relaxed atmosphere at the show, but most important the birds will arrive home just after lunch rather than when the lights have gone off.

There will be a something for everyone, a bird from a top stud as the main prize, shields, trophies, section prize money at all events, rosettes and named prize cards. Most of all competition will be fair and even playing field giving you a reasons to bring your birds out. So can you stay in the top league year on year?.

It was thought that these ideas were achievable with some hard work but most of all it needs member participation there is no point bringing a judge 60 miles to judge 20 birds.
Members therefore must exhibit at 3 shows per year, no exceptions.

But the social side of the hobby was also thought to be very important, so monthly social nights will be held at a local pub, with no specific layout for the room which would be left optional as would be Sunday aviary visits enabling us to go further a field, evening visits in the summer would also be arranged.

If you have any queries as to how this will work for you, just ask we are all positive about the ideas, but are you up for the challenge?, with your participation this could be excellent way to move the society forward.

DO YOU WANT A HOBBY ??
